Sustainable Fort Carson Announces Post Shuttle Service (starting May 4)
Post Shuttle Service Route (PDF)
A free post circulating shuttle is now in operation 7 days a week serving Military and Department of Defense personnel. The shuttle has two primary routes; one is designated “Green” and the other “Blue”. The shuttles operate in the main cantonment area with one route serving the “Banana Belt” and the other serving Evans Army Community Hospital. Several designated shuttle stops are marked along each route with transfers possible along areas where both routes circulate or intersect. The routes are designed to keep wait times at any particular stop no more than 15 minutes. This service is a test; current routes and schedules are subject to change based on ridership and rider feedback.
Mary Barber, Sustainable Fort Carson, said “The post shuttle is the realization of several years work to identify funding sources and partnerships. It would have not been possible without the collaborative efforts of the Directorates of Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, Public Works and Logistics; Network Enterprise Command; and the USAG. The shuttle is part of a whole system of transportation alternatives to serve Soldiers and civilians without the necessity of a car.”
Soldiers from USAG Replacement Detachment and tasked units will operate the shuttle system. Fifteen passenger vans will travel along the following routes:
The Blue Route operates Monday – Friday 0600 – 1900, and circulates from B-Street /Gate 4
thru Central Cantonment, to / from Evans Army Community Hospital and returns to B-Street/Gate 4. It detours during PT Monday – Friday 0600 – 0800.
The Green Route operates 7 days a week 0600 – 1900 and circulates around the Central
Cantonment, up and down the Banana Belt and back through the Central Cantonment. It detours during PT Monday – Friday 0600 – 0800 & ceremonies at Founders Field.
All personnel are encouraged to arrive to Fort Carson by sharing a ride either by carpooling or van pooling. Van pool riders are eligible for the Army Mass Transit Benefit which helps to defer the cost of the van, insurance and maintenance. For more information sign up at http://www.carson.army.mil/paio/sustainability.html. Bicycling and walking are also good ways to get to post without a car and good exercise too!
Using the shuttle will reduce air pollutants, save fuel, reduce vehicle ownership costs, and provide a service for those who can’t or don’t wish to drive.
All riders are encouraged to give feedback about any aspect of the shuttle system or operations using the ICE comment system. Comment cards will be available on the van.
