WINTER ACTIVITIES

  • Get on the Bus Ski/Snowboard Trips:  
Take advantage of the best ski deal around.  A.P.E. provides your lift ticket and transportation, plus knowledgeable guides that can familiarize you with the mountain and assist with beginner instruction.

  •  Learn to Ski/Snowboard Trip:

Always wanted to learn how to ski or snowboard join us for a day up at Monarch Ski area and get a half day lesson from a professional instructor.  Your lesson will be in the morning then you can work on your new skills all afternoon.  Getting a lesson from a professional rather than your “buddy” will increase your learning curve, making the snowy steeps an enjoyable experience for you.

Dates: Any Trip to Monarch Ski Area

Time: 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Cost: An addition $45 for a lesson (ages 7 & up)

 

  • Crested Butte Ski Weekend Trip:

Join us on this amazing trip and find out why people come from all over the world to ski CB.  Trip includes: 2 nights lodging at the luxurious Grand Lodge ski in ski out, 2 days skiing/snowboarding at CB, 2 breakfasts, and round trip transportation.  We will leave Friday night and be back late Sunday.  This has become one of our customers top favorite trips of all year.   We will only be able to take the first 34 people to sign up. So sign up early!

Dates: December 9-11

Time: Fri. 5 p.m. – Sun. 8 p.m.

  • Wolf Creek Ski Weekend Trip:

Join us for a trip that will exhilarate the body and relax the soul.  Enjoy a weekend with days full of powder skiing at some of the snowiest resorts in Colorado.  In the evenings rest your weary muscles in the natural hot springs located near our hotel in the quaint town of Pagosa Springs.  Bus leaves outdoor recreation Friday nights at 1730

Dates:  January 14-16th                      February 18-20th

Time: Sat. 0600-Mon. 2000

Cost includes transportation, lodging, two nights at the hot springs, two breakfasts and two lunches

  • New Winter Park Ski Weekend Trip:

Join APE as we enter the world of Winter Park and Marry Jane ski areas.  This Colorado favorite hotspot ski area is sure to get everyone excited.  From “Steep and Deep” to Olympic caliber groomed runs, Winter Park has it all.  This amazing weekend is sure to get your legs burning after two full days of skiing or boarding.  At night our guides will share all their favorite shops and eateries in town for you to enjoy.  On this trip we will be staying as a group in a beautiful hostel in Winter Park, known for its cleanliness and close proximity to epic powder.

Date 3-5th of February 2012

Leave Friday night at 5:30 p.m.. Return Sunday by 6 p.m.

Cost: $260 double occupancy

          $180 3rd and 4th person per room

  • Snowshoeing:

Snowshoeing allows you to experience the solitude and serenity of our Colorado wilderness.  You will learn tips and techniques for traveling on snowshoes efficiently and have many opportunities for those “Kodak Moments”.

Dates: February 26th               March 3rd  & 18th

Time: 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Cost:  $30 with snowshoe rental / $25 w/o snowshoe rental

 

  • Cross-Country Skiing:

Experience an “age old” style of traveling in a winter environment.  Join us for a day in the Rocky Mountains while learning the basics of cross-country skiing.  Our instructors will provide you with transportation and instruction. 

Dates: January7th &   February 11th    March 4th    

Time: 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Cost:  $30 with ski rental / $25 w/o ski rental

 

  • NEW! Avalanche Awareness Class:

With the increased popularity of winter activities such as ice climbing, winter mountaineering, and backcountry skiing/snowboarding many more people are traveling into avalanche terrain.  Nearly all avalanches that involve people are triggered by the victims themselves or a member of their party. This is actually good news, it means that if we know how to recognize avalanche danger, we can avoid it.   Attending this class will give you an introduction on the following topics: what is avalanche terrain, trip planning, reducing your risks in the field, rescue, avalanche equipment and your next steps.  

Dates:  January 16th    February 8th 2012

Time: 5:30 – 8 p.m.

Cost: $5

 

  •  NEW! Introduction to Avalanche Safety & Backcountry Skiing/Snowboarding: 

So you want to ride in powder and you’re sick of the crowds and lift lines at resorts?  Come learn the skills necessary to travel in the backcountry while experiencing the solitude and freedom of the hills, which makes backcountry skiing/snowboarding so unique.  First day is an evening classroom session. The second day is out on the snow.

Dates: January 20-22nd 2012   February 24-26th 2012             March 16-18th 2012

Time: Fri. 5:30 – 8 p.m., Sat. 6 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Cost:  $70

 

 

Lost Wonder Hut Ski or Snowshoe Trip:  

Imagine a winter wonderland right at your front door.  Join us for a ski hut trip in the Rockies.  Ski 4 miles to this amazing hut, experience excellent skiing, great food, warm fire and the company of others.

Dates:  TBD

Time: Sat.  6 a.m. – Sun. 6 p.m.

Cost:  $115

 

  • NEW! Mountaineering Weekend Trip: (Recommended Prerequisite: On Belay)

Learn basic mountaineering skills such as self-arrest, use of pickets and flutes, and traveling over snow with crampons and an ice axe.  The goal of the course is to put these skills to the test on an ascent of a moderately steep snow or mixed route.  Come enjoy the freedom of the hills!

Dates: April 20-22 Leaving at 5 p.m. on Friday, and returning 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Pre Trip meeting at 6 p.m. on 19April

Cost: $115 – price includes everything but personal clothing

  •  NEW! Private Backcountry Ski or Snowboard Guiding

So you have done an intro class and you want more!  Come down and set up a private backcountry ski day with one of our guides and we will continue to develop your backcountry skills and knowledge, while making some powder turns.  We may even take you out to one of our secret stashes.

Dates: come down to the office and schedule a day that works for you.

Cost: $120 for individuals / $75 per person of group of two or three

  •  Snowmobile Trips:

Come out for a fun and exciting day as you ride through a winter wilderness and enjoy the awe inspiring views of the surrounding 14,000 foot high mountain peaks.  Explore the local winter wonderland for 3+ hours with your guide as you zip through the trees.  After the ride you can rest and soak in the Monarch lodge hot tub for only $5.

Dates: Any time we have a trip to Monarch Ski Area

Time: 6 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Cost: $115 to ride solo, $140 to for 2 riders on one sled

  •  Full Day Snowmobile Trips (includes lunch)

Looking for the ultimate winter adrenaline rush???  Ride for 6+ hours through the central Rockies, exploring the peaks and valleys around Monarch Mountain.  After an exciting morning learning the controls of your sled, enjoy lunch at one of the endless view points scattered throughout the wilderness. After your meal, power up to the Continental Divide for the culmination of your day.

Dates:  Feb. 11th          March 17th

Time: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Cost: $165 to ride solo, $215 for 2 riders on one sled
