Free Annual Pass for Military to National Parks

America the Beautiful – the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass

Through the years military members have found inspiration in America’s patriotic icons and majestic landscapes, the places that symbolize the nation that their sacrifices protect. We owe
a debt to those who sacrifice so much to protect our country.

To thank active duty members of the U.S. Military and their dependents we are offering a free annual pass to more than 2,000 sites across the nation. The military version of the America the Beautiful – the National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands Annual Pass will permit free access to national parks, national wildlife refuges, national forests, and other Federal public lands. A visit to a national park, forest, or wildlife refuge provides an opportunity to bond with loved ones, unwind, relax, heal, rejuvenate, and just have fun.

Do I pick the pass up at MWR or do I just show my id at the park?

How do I get my pass?

You can receive your pass by presenting your military ID at most Federal lands that charge an entrance fee. A list of sites that sell pass is available. Sites that issue the Annual Pass will generally also issue the free military version as well. Please contact the Federal Land you will be visiting in advance to ensure that they have the pass available.

  • Yvonne says:

I want to first say THANK YOU to our troops.
Then I would like to thank the National Parks and it affliates for this offer.
    But I was wondering…..

    1. Why are so many things ONLY offered to ACTIVE DUTY & THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS?
    2. Why is this not offered to RETIRED MILITARY & THEIR FAMILY?

As a retired military spouse, I feel we gave our 20+ years and should be entitled to these benefits as well.

    Retired Military Wife,
    Yvonne

    Yvonne…
I am retired from the army as well and like most military retirees after 20 or more years of service, I am also a disabled veteran. Disabled veterans can get a lifetime pass to all National Parks. I got one at Sand Dunes and it is good everywhere for free admission for me and everyone in the car with me. We used it again at Rocky Mountain National Park too… So if your husband is a disabled veteran, have him call the National Park at Sand Dunes or Rocky Mountain NP and ask what he needs to bring to prove he is a DV. I have DV Car Tags and that was enough for me. Good luck and thank you for your service.
    Respectfully
    Chuck
